Class list#

The class list is the left sidebar of the Finder. It shows every class in the instance with the number of objects in each one and is the main way to filter the Finder table by class.

Layout#

The sidebar header is labelled All classes. Three controls sit below the header:

  • Sort 9-0: toggles between alphabetical (A,Z) sort and reverse sort.
  • A show/hide empty classes toggle (eye icon). When the icon shows an open eye, classes with zero objects are visible. When the icon shows an eye with a strike-through, empty classes are hidden, the tooltip then reads Show empty classes because that is what clicking will do.
  • A Search icon. Click it to open an inline search box and filter the class list by name. Click the × inside the box to clear the filter.

Below the controls comes the actual list:

  • All objects: a synthetic entry that selects every object across every class. Highlighted by default.
  • One row per class, showing the class icon, the class name, and the number of objects in that class.

Filter the Finder by class#

Click any class entry. The Finder table updates to show only objects of that class. The right-pane heading changes from All objects to the class name and a ★ Favorite star appears next to the class name, see Favorites.

Click All objects to remove the filter and see every object again.

Class scope dropdown#

The All classes (n) dropdown above the search bar offers an alternative way to pick a class, it lists every class with its object count and supports keyboard navigation. Selecting a class from this dropdown has the same effect as clicking the class in the sidebar.

Hide and show empty classes#

By default the sidebar hides classes that have zero objects so that the list stays compact. Click the eye icon to show every class regardless of count, or click again to hide empty classes once more. The current state is reflected by the icon itself (open eye = empty classes visible, struck-through eye = empty classes hidden).
